Until now, the history of the Vikings begins in 793 AD. after the Norwegian Vikings landed in England in what was considered the first official incursion of this society, setting a precedent for many of the stories that circulate about them.
But now everything points to the era of the vikings, especially the one related to the sea, started in denmark.
A team of archaeologists from the University of Aarhus, Denmark, and the University of York, in the United Kingdom, has shown that maritime travel from Norway to what was considered to be the oldest shopping center in Denmark, Ribe, happened long before the Viking age officially began, around the year 725.
These researchers found deer antlers in the oldest archaeological sites in the town of Ribe and finally they turned out to belong to the horns of reindeer native to Norway.
As confirmed by Professor Søren Sindbæk, one of the authors of this new study, recently published in the European Journal of Archeology, “This is the first time that we have proof that the seafaring culture was the basis for the Viking era and that it began in Ribe”.
For his part, the Norwegian Dagfinn Skre, professor at the Museum of Cultural History in Oslo, stated that the research was something very interesting, stating that “I was very happy when I read the research results since it is something that archaeologists had believed for many years, but now, with this very persuasive study, the origin of the Viking age has been proven.”.

For a long time archaeologists were divided as some asserted the fact that it all started in Ribe, while others claimed that it was not, although until now neither group had irrefutable evidence that their position was correct.
With the reindeer horns The first of the evidences was found that showed that Ribe had a role of great importance in this matter and that little by little things began to revolve around this place, occupying the main role in the first commercial trips made between Norway and Denmark , which allowed the Vikings to develop much more all their maritime capacity and their geographical knowledge, something that would serve them for future incursions into other lands.
After studying History at the University and after many previous tests, Red Historia was born, a project that emerged as a means of dissemination where you can find the most important news of archeology, history and humanities, as well as articles of interest, curiosities and much more. In short, a meeting point for everyone where they can share information and continue learning.
